The Pirate Queen by Patricia Hickman is a story of a woman who struggles through complications to end up with great things. After putting up with her cheating husband for years, the day Sephora decides to leave him, he tells her that he is dying. She could have left him, but decided to stay with him. Her plans had been to escape to their beach home by herself. Instead she ends up going there with her husband, Bender.
It also mixes some religious tones to it. They have not been religious, but after getting sick, Bender starts meeting with the pastor and starts reading the Bible.
They also have difficulties with their grown children. But with all going on in her life, she finds someone that is dealing with more and handles it better.
After losing Bender, she gains a new reason for happiness. Through a chain of events, she ends up adopting a son.
It was an easy and quick read.
